You’re my Problem: Now Go Away…Maybe Not

Was humanity simply commanded to watch over the animals, or
was their calling something greater; something that only God could
foresee in the future? Many have become vegetarians or chosen to
purchase environmentally-friendly clothing; however, is that what
God meant when He gave us “dominion” over all the earth. “Let us
make human beings in our image, make them
 reflecting our nature So they
can be responsible for the fish in the sea, the birds in the air,
the cattle, And, yes, Earth itself, and every animal that moves on
the face of Earth.” God created human beings; he created them
godlike, Reflecting God’s nature. He
created them male and female. God blessed them: “Prosper!
Reproduce! Fill Earth! Take charge! Be
responsible for fish in the sea and birds in the air, for
every living thing that moves on the face of
Earth
” (Gen. 1:26-28). I find it interesting how we
justify the state of this society as Satan’s fault, because we go
back to the verse that says, “Satan, who is the god of this world,
has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable
to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand
this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness
of God” (2 Cor. 4:4). This verse does not claim Satan as having
“dominion” over this world, it simply says that he is “worshiped”
by this world. We, the children of God have been given authority,
dominion, power, responsibility, and the Holy Spirit’s power to
bring about the grace, love, and hope of Christ. If our world has
become a place of shame, then it is us who should hang our heads.
What if God desired humanity to be an instrument of His reflection.
What if He created men and women to be the hands and feet of
change. Perhaps we worry about a government “shutdown”, because
then we as the church, would be forced to hang an “open” sign on
the doorpost. It’s time to shutdown welfare and open up the doors
of the sanctuary. It’s time to shutdown poverty and open up our
checkbooks. It’s time to shutdown apathy and open up our arms to
those around us. You have been commissioned to be a
reflection.
